Chances are your grandparents were quite capable
of living within their budget, even if they didn’t have much.
They raised their families in simpler times when credit wasn’t as readily
available, and when people saved money for
life’s luxuries. If they didn’t have the money, they didn’t
buy. Without all of the complex plastic money and banking
accounts, they knew where their money went.
There is one prevailing reason why budgeting
was easier for your grandparents. They kept it simple! They
would divide their pay check into envelopes marked with words
such as “Groceries”, “Utilities”, “House payment”, etc.
It was common for your grandparents to cash their paycheck and divide
the cash into envelopes. When the money in one envelope
ran out, more money had to be put back in
before they could spend more. Seem simple? Well, it is!
Debt Free Living’s
ENVELOPE BUDGET program is a simple
software program that allows you to divide your
income into electronic envelopes. When you make a purchase,
simply enter the amount in the appropriate envelope on your
desktop
computer or on a budgeting check-book register, if you prefer, and the
ENVELOPE BUDGET will let you
know how much money you have left in the envelope. If the money
in any envelope runs out, you will know. Better yet, you will
be able to adjust your budget based on simple feedback to ensure
that your income is the same as your expenses.
The software is
not currently available.
